Florian Wiencek

Florian Wiencek (B.Sc. in Digital Media – 2006; M.A. in Art and Cultural Mediation – 2009; University of Bremen) is currently PhD fellow at Jacobs University Bremen, Germany (Visual Communication and Expertise), visiting scholar at Duke University (Art, Art History and Visual Studies) and Steering Committee Member of the Research Center “Visual Communication and Expertise” (Jacobs University Bremen). Until June 2011 he was working as research associate in the BMBF-funded project „Visual–Film–Discourse“ (Jacobs University Bremen) on the categorization and image typologies of news images and the use of image archives and databases in newsproduction (http://dm.tzi.de/en/visuals-film-discourse/). Moreover he has worked as freelance graphic designer and as curatorial assistant / projectmanager in exhibition projects. His main research interests are digital mediation of art, digital archives, media art (especially interactive art and video art / experimental film), hybrid art as well as digital culture and communication. He has written on the documentation of interactive art, digital archives as mediation-medium for media art and online art mediation.

Florian Wiencek is currently working on his PhD project on digital mediation of media art, including projects on the re-mediation of experiences of moving image installations into digital displays (in collaboration with Stephanie Sarah Lauke, Academy of Media Arts, Cologne, Germany, see http://isea2011.sabanciuniv.edu/paper/remediation-experience-case-study) as well as collaborative meaning-making. Moreover he is collaborating with Timothy Senior (Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg, Delmenhorst, Germany) on the development of an ontology for art-science crossover works (see http://isea2011.sabanciuniv.edu/paper/artscience-ontology).
